VIDEO REPEATS

Forward Goalkeeper™
video referee system
A system for multi-channel recording and playback of slow-motion replays of live TV broadcasts. It has been successfully used for broadcasting various sports competitions (hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, horse racing, various types of martial arts, etc.) since 2005. During this time several dozens of Forward Goalkeeper systems in different configurations have been delivered to customers from Russia, CIS countries, near and far abroad.

There are variants of the system for working with different types of signals: analog (CVBS/YUV/RGB), SD-SDI, HD/3G-SDI.

Number of recording channels: from 2 to 16.

As a rule, the system is delivered “turnkey”, i.e. as a server with installed I/O boards and customized software. FDExt series boards are used.
Main distinguishing features of the system
  • Minimum delay between an event and its repeat - no more than 2 seconds
  • Simple, intuitive and configurable user interface designed with direct input from live directors and cameramen.
  • Instant switching between different cameras
  • Ability to view input video in preview windows
  • Playback does not interrupt recording
  • Showing replays at a speed from 0% to 200% of the real one
  • Reverse playback (speed from -100% to 0%)
  • Capture video data from NDI stream sources
  • Mixed mode capturing from different types of NDI + SDI sources
  • Supports Super Slow-Motion cameras.
  • Prepare the next replay at the same time as playing the current replay
  • Various ways to control the system: keyboard, mouse, TouchScreen, external remote control (console)
  • Simultaneous recording to video files for further operative editing
  • Video export in various formats: AVI, MPEG2, AVC, MP4, MPEG2 TS, MXF, Apple ProRes
  • GPI integration with video equipment (start/stop, GPI-in/GPI-out)
  • Sequential playback of multiple replays without pause between them
  • Enable video interlude on start/stop of a replay
  • Supports video interludes with transparency channel at the start/stop of a repeat, as well as between repeats.
  • Static or dynamic logo overlay to indicate repeat mode
  • Ability to create a playlist to play the most interesting moments or the whole game immediately after the end of the game (or between periods), as well as create a video summary (summary)
  • Analog, SDI or HD SDI signal connection options
  • Compact, integrated, ready-to-use system
Typical scheme of work with Forward Goalkeeper
The following main elements are involved in the circuit:

Entrance Cameras (Video Camera 1, Video Camera 2)
Forward Goalkeeper system - to perform the following functions:
recording video from cameras to vaults
readout of recording fragments from storages
slow playback of fragments
Video mixer - for switching between the input cameras and the output from Forward Golkiper; from it the output to the broadcast TV monitors - for viewing the signal:
“Camera 1”, ‘Camera 2’ - from the input cameras
“Goalkeeper” - from the Forward Goalkeeper output.
On Air” - from the output of the video mixer
SLControlBox101 - a device for communication between the video mixer and Forward Goalkeeper via GPI interface On-air output is controlled by two people:
on-air director (behind the video mixer)
Forward Goalkeeper system operator
Support for external consoles
The Forward Referee and Forward Goalkeeper systems can be conveniently controlled using external consoles (available separately). They are an external unit with keys, speed knob and scroll wheel. It is possible to set the mode of calling basic control commands (depending on the type of system) by pressing the keys on the external console:

  • Marking an event (point of interest) for later replay
  • Move 0...9 seconds backward from the event
  • Moving one or more frames backward and forward
  • Precise movement (to frame accuracy) with the scroll wheel
  • Event correction
  • Switch between labeled events in the list
  • Select the current camera
  • Select one of the preset speeds
  • Smooth speed control with the knob
  • Prepare, start, stop repeat
  • and others
You can connect two consoles at the same time to organize a second workstation. For example, in the Forward Referee system, an additional console (together with an additional monitor) can be installed for a field referee or coach in the locker room so that they can independently view important moments of the game, navigate through the events, etc.

Some of the supported console models (others are supported - for example, pretty much any JLCooper console)
Playlist
On the basis of interesting moments of the broadcast (dangerous moment, infringement, goal, etc.), marked and given for replay during the broadcast, you can quickly create a playlist to show interesting moments during the break between periods, after the match or in a pause during the match. For this purpose, the ReplayMachine Console program has a playlist editor window.

Playlist editor capabilities:

  • Generate a playlist preset from selected moments and cameras at the touch of a button
  • Quickly edit the beginning/end of clips in the playlist using keyboard, mouse or external console
  • Ability to automatically insert interludes between clips in the playlist
  • Ability to insert arbitrary clips from video files into the playlist
  • Moving, deleting a group of selected clips in the playlist
  • Edit clip parameters (title, type, playback speed, start/end times)
  • Flexible customization of the playlist window: ability to resize sections, controls (buttons), preview pictures
  • Additional features for quick playlist creation and editing (adding clips with the desired camera sequence with one command, duplicating clips in the playlist, etc.).
  • Export playlist to video files: to one file common for the whole playlist, or to several files, each fragment separately.
